Baubles To Enjoy – Winter ‘Ten

Do you need help with your list to Santa?

‘Tis the season to be ever so creative with yer baubles. The offering of jewellery and accessories just keeps on getting stronger.  Is this due to competition, demand, talent, design, craftsmanship? Whatever the reason, don’t even think of questioning it. Just relish it and enjoy! Even if it’s just to dream….

Whether it is fine gems you are on the look-out for in the wilds of the metropolis, man-made bits and bobs, or just a touch of glitter to accessorise upon a dark night and / or an increasingly bitterly cold day, it is somewhat of a gilt maize out there. I thought I’d be Santa-friendly and offer a little festive retail assistance.

Being somewhat fussy – also a little over-exposed to all that is pretty, pretty and expensive, not so pretty and expensive and things that are downright overpriced and ridiculous – I like to think I am a connoisseur in all things bauble-icious.

Taking it upon myself to carry out a faux day of real-life and virtual shopping – am using faux to describe the task in question considering it was done without spending a dime, a nickel, a euro, or in fact a pound…Purely to indulge my eyes in a feast of fabulous things I can but dream of…

This idea came about after being gifted with a divine 18 carat yellow gold and diamond necklace entitled ‘You’re The One’, by that fabulous British jeweller, David M Robinson. I happened to be in Liverpool visiting the HQ (I am contributing to their first glossy magazine, due out in time for Christmas), and it was the day after my birthday, can’t be a bad omen to start the year!  What a wonderful touch and I was so grateful.  Might just pop on the train for another cheeky day-trip some time soon….

No joke, am doing a Marilyn a la Chanel 5….haven’t taken the necklace off since. I must confess that I sleep in my new diamond – keeps me warm at night.  No seriously, I love it, it keeps on getting compliments and I actually think all the collections within the Yellow Box Collection are genius – fluid, feminine, really well-priced as the guys at DMR manufacture all their own pieces and totally wearable.

Number One on the list for Santa Claus and his voyage with the reindeer has to be the multi-gem pink gold bracelet from the new Kaleidoscope collection at Heming, Burlington Arcade.  A delicious Dickensian shop bang in the middle in the Arcade, the oldest shopping mall in the world.

Doing a little obsessive undressing of shop windows with only my eyes, I find myself on a self-inflicted diversion from the hectic pre-Xmas end of the world, AKA Oxford Street and its chaotic energy, onto slick, candy-like Bond Street, where the street is paved with not just gold but some serious helpings of platinum and emeralds.

The Adler boutique never ceases to make my jaw drop and yup, dribbling might even be witnessed. Recession?  Crisis?  Nah, not this side of the globe….there are not just pieces of jewellery in the windows, but gigantic, vivid and electrifyingly perfect emeralds, aching to be put on.  Anyone from Adler reading this, doing any pre-Christmas evenings with some bubbly and Fortnums’ pies?

De Grisogono is beyond mouth-watering and I just don’t know if I should just bite the bullet and bag a Russian homme…NOW.  Spacibo….;-)

Must tell you something I spotted the other day via a good journo pal, Avis Cardella who has just had her novel, Spent: Memoirs of a Shopping Addict, published.  She introduced me to Owen & Savary, started up by two fabulous girls based in London and Paris, who create leather cuffs and accessories for femmes et hommes. Wonderful quality and generally quite tricky to find cuffs that are comfortable and don’t make much noise as you type or write or eat… they come in great colours too.

By the way, the ankle boots bought on mini adventure to sunny Seville last week from the quintessentially Spanish shoe brand, Camper are doing exactly what a pair of boots with heels what should do; offering comfort, height and a touch of class to the chore in question.  Gracias muchas. Running across hot Seville and icy London have been without an ounce of a complaint, no mean feat if you were familiar with my regular vocal releases when plodding through retail areas in urban sprawls.  First pair of boots I’ve owned that I dont rush to extricate my feet from upon walking through the front door.

Comments please on your thoughts for Christmas gifts.  It’s come around fast again…with age, time flies, I fear.
